The National Trust is looking to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural events between April and May 2014 as part of their annual Heritage Festival.

It’s free to register an event and is a great way to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage. Sorry Day, Reconciliation week, Anzac Day Memorials and events including exhibitions, talks, music and dance in your community are the types of events the National Trust are looking to promote.

In 2014, the National Trust is keen have a strong Indigenous presence with lots of exposure to history and culture, as well as insights into different communities in NSW.

This year’s National Trust Heritage Festival theme is Journeys. The theme may be interpreted in many ways, from walkabout to migration, immigration to adventure and discovery as well as travel vehicles and stories. It is not mandatory to stick to the theme but should be used as a guide.

Just in case you are not aware, the National Trust is a non-Government Not-For-Profit organisation which started in 1945 to protect Heritage; Built, Natural and Cultural. The Heritage Festival has been running for 34 years as a community based festival highlighting cultural events throughout NSW.

It is free to register your event. The free event guide is distributed to libraries, councils, National Trust members and all participating venues. With over 40,000 events guides printed it’s a fantastic opportunity for exposure.

The deadline for the printed guide was 1 December 2013 but there is still opportunity to promote your event through the mobile application and website which will close for entries closer to the festival.
