Presented by the Australian Society of Authors (ASA), award-winning Australian Aboriginal author and speaker Melissa Lucashenko will deliver the prestigious Colin Simpson Memorial Lecture in 2013.

The lecture will be held on Thursday 17 October 2013 at 6pm at the Metcalfe Auditorium, State LIbrary of NSW. There is no change but bookings must be made via ASA.

Lucashenko will examine what it means to be an Indigenous author in contemporary Australian society and outline what needs to be done to support the creation and distribution of works by Indigenous authors in Australia.

Melissa has recently published her fifth novel, Mullumbimby (UQP), a story of love, country and Aboriginal Law set in the far north of NSW around Ocean Shores and Billinudgel. She is an award-winning Australian writer of Murri (Aboriginal) and European heritage. Her writing explores the role of indigenous identity in modern Australia, often set in urban and working class communities.
