Come and visit historic Bare Island at La Perouse on Sunday 6 April 2014 to join a range of cultural tours and participate in creative workshops by recognised Aboriginal artists. Bare Island will be open for this event on the first Sunday of every month throughout 2014.

In addition to the tours and workshops, the Bare Island open day will also feature the Indigenous ‘Black Markets’. The markets will have food, coffee and art and craft stalls. Visit art and craft stalls including Laddie Timbery’s whose family have been selling their artefacts on the Loop at La Perouse for 188 years. Laddie can burn you a boomerang or show you how to throw one. There is a $2 entry fee to visit Bare Island, which is usually only open for tours.

All profits from the tours and workshops will go towards running a Back to Bush Program for Aboriginal youth at risk run by First Hand Solutions Aboriginal Corporation.

“First Hands” is a new social enterprise offering an authentic Aboriginal tourism experience to the Sydney market while supporting cultural education for young Aboriginal people.
