A new program for Indigenous playwriting in Australia, supporting a group of outstanding First Nations writers.

Playwriting Australia is passionately committed to the ongoing development of Indigenous playwrights and their work. They are inviting leading and emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander playwrights nationally to participate in a week-long writing retreat.

The Retreat will take place in the idyllic surrounds of the Bundanon Trust in the Shoalhaven River Valley (Regional NSW), land of the Wodi Wodi people of the Yuin Nation. Over seven days, ten selected playwrights will be given time to write, imagine and dream with fellow artists in a peer-led community celebrating the exchange of ideas, creative collaboration and professional growth.

Playwrights will be free to design their retreat week in any way they like. Playwriting Australia will also provide a dramaturg on hand to respond to work as needed and continue our ongoing conversation about Indigenous dramaturgy.

Selected playwrights will be provided with:

  • Weekly wage at MEAA standard rate;
  • Return travel from their normal place of residence;
  • A separate room in shared accommodation;
  • Daily meals.

Retreat dates: 30 September – 7 October 2015
Where: Bundanon Trust, Illaroo NSW 2540
Submission deadline: 5pm, Friday 24 April 2015
